Gündogan the Man

Image
For £20 million, German International Ilkay Gündogan became the first signing of Pep Guardiola’s era at Manchester City. For those who witnessed the efforts of Borussia Dortmund in reaching the 2013 UEFA Champions League Finals, you probably already know the quality which he possesses. If there was any doubt, shortly after this signing was confirmed, a certain Paul Scholes expressed his admiration for Gündogan as a keen observer during his time at Dortmund and stated that once he can maintain fitness, he can be a fantastic player. But this is where the German has had most of his career lows. Consistent injuries have plagued his career and even lead to him missing out on a World Cup Winners medal in 2014 as well as the chance to represent at the 2016 Euros. Devastating. However, he continues to carry on.   Guardiola described Gündogan as “Exceptional” and that he can play in many different positions along with a great work ethic.   7 THINGS WE LEARNED FROM 7-0 Terry Fenwick finally got the opportunity to set his feet on the touchline for a competitive game as T&T Head Coach and it’s fair to say that things didn’t quite go to plan. The Soca Warriors were humiliated in a 7-0 trashing against a weakened and inexperienced US team in Orlando on January 31 st , equalling the record for the nation’s heaviest ever defeat (previously 7-0 vs Mexico in 2000). Following T&T’s WCQ 2-1 win against the US (that denied them a place in the 2018 World Cup), the Warriors’ next two games against the CONCACAF giants ended 6-0 (at the 2019 Gold Cup) and 7-0. So what is wrong with the national team? Why are we so bad? Here are 7 things we learned from the 7-0 washing: Football Politics Still Weighs Heavy Over the past few months, Terry Fenwick would have been in training with a specific group of players, who were expected to be featuring in T&T’s practice/friendly matches. However, merely days before the trip to Orlando,

The Tuchel Transition

Image
Chelsea FC have taken part in the managerial merry-go-round once again by sacking Frank Lampard and bringing in Thomas Tuchel on an 18-month contract. This decision caused a split amongst the Chelsea fans as to whether Lampard should have been given more time or whether the club made the right decision to replace him. In any event, Thomas Tuchel does have a difficult few months ahead of him in order to steer Chelsea in the right direction for the rest of the season. Tuchel’s first priority has to be the integrating of the new members of the squad as well as getting the to perform at the highest level, while also contributing to the team’s success. These include the likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech. These three are the new signings who are having the most underwhelming seasons out of the new signings. Tuchel’s style of play, as well as his tactical aptitude does show that he can get the best out of these players. His tactical adaptability also allows for these player

Romelu Lukaku: The World Class Striker.

Heading into this season, there were many that considered Inter Milan to be a favorite to bring home the league title this season. There are many reasons as to why people had Inter Milan down as the favorites this season but arguably the biggest reason is their main man up front Romelu Lukaku and so far, this season, he has been excellent. This season alone, Lukaku has propelled himself from being an elite striker to being one of the most lethal strikers in the world. Inter currently sit second in the table, only 2 points behind their rival AC Milan and a huge reason as to why the title race is still so close is because of Romelu Lukaku’s contribution. In all games this season Lukaku has 18 goals and 3 assists across 25 games this season. Including twelve goals in the league, good enough for third in the goal scoring charts in Italy. Despite being third, he has notched those twelve goals with only 47 shots, 7 less than second place Immobile (with 13 goals) and 24 shots less than first
